约翰·D·麦克唐纳，（John D. MacDonald，1916 年7 月24 日－1986 年12 月28 日），美国作家、影响了美国几代人的侦探悬疑小说大师。他最著名的作品包括崔维斯·麦基（Travis McGee）系列，以及电影《海角惊魂》的原著小说《刽子手》（The Executioners）。
1962 年，美国侦探作家协会（MWA）授予约翰·D·麦克唐纳最高奖项：大师奖（The Grand Master Award）。1980 年，他又赢得美国作家的最高荣誉之一：国家图书奖（American Book Award）。
约翰·D·麦克唐纳生于美国宾夕法尼亚州，就读沃顿商学院时因留级而中途退学，后进入锡拉丘兹大学管理学院，1939 年获哈佛大学工商管理硕士学位。
二战中，麦克唐纳被派往中缅印战区。他曾在中国工作过，参与中国远征军在缅甸的战役。这一段经历被巧妙编排进《深蓝告别》中。服役期间，他为解闷写了一个短篇小说，寄给妻子。妻子悄悄投稿，一投即中。退伍后，麦克唐纳弃商从文，坚持不懈地写作四十多年，留下七十八部长篇小说和难以计数的短篇作品。每年的十月二日是麦克唐纳读者的节日，他们从全美各地来到佛罗里达州劳德代尔堡巴伊亚玛F-18 号船位，崔维斯·麦基的“家”，那里停放着为了纪念麦克唐纳而建造的“缺角同花”号游船。
